Summary

Howie Mandel is known for his incredible professional resilience. Starting as a comic in Toronto, he became an actor who starred in St. Elsewhere, then provided the voice of Gizmo in Gremlins, and went on to star in countless movies and TV shows. He's now become one of the most widely known TV personalities, working as the host of Deal or No Deal, as well as a judge on America's Got Talent. He even has a podcast that he hosts with his daughter called, Howie Mandel Does Stuff. It's incredibly difficult to have a 40 year career in showbiz, now imagine handling all of that with a crippling mental illness.

In this episode Howie and his wife of 40 plus years, producer Terry Mandel, open up about Howie's lifelong struggle with severe OCD and anxiety. They discuss how it's affected their marriage, family and overall life, and Howie's lifelong fight to cope with it with Terry's help and support. In this conversation Howie explains how he came out with his mental illness by accident and how important it is for him to be open and show others that suffer with the disorder, that they aren't alone. This is an inspiring and much needed conversation around the importance of mental health.

1:05.2	years ago Howie was one of the first people to courageously open up about living with OCD and his
1:10.8	struggles with mental health and wellness but what you might not know is how living with OCD
1:16.4	also affected Howie's marriage and family. This is such an important conversation to have especially
1:21.8	right now when so many of us are suffering. This issue is also very personal to us because
1:28.0	we've been learning a lot about OCD over the past few years. OCD is something I personally struggle
1:33.6	with and I'm grateful to Howie for opening up at a time when few people were talking about this
1:38.7	publicly and there was even more of a stigma about OCD and mental health than there is today.
1:44.4	It's through empathy, understanding and being kinder to one another that we can finally
1:49.6	remove the stigma and change the narrative. We are still very new to the journey of understanding
1:54.3	what OCD is but we are learning that by being open about our challenges we find a community where
2:00.3	we realize we are not so alone and we can be a part of paving away for more people to seek help.
