Imagine you're in tundra as far as you can see, big rolling hills and giant clouds scutting overhead, rain slashing at you sideways, small biting insects swarming you.

And just over the way, there's a herd of ungulates that you've been stalking for hours.

You're almost within range, almost within position,

and you just have a few more yards worth of muck to crawl through to get in position. And then imagine that just

down the canyon otherwise called a Glen.

There's a castle and there's a crackling fire and a chef who may not have a Michelin star but probably should preparing you dinner.

It just changes the perspective of the whole thing and the story I've just kind of the picture I've just painted here is

what my lovely bride termed today is it perhaps like a gentleman's caribou hunt

we're actually stalking red deer, red stags in Scotland and the terrain is incredibly

reminiscent of the time I've spent out on the tundra in Alaska. Even the behavior of the red deer in many ways is so

similar, but of course the species is different, their cousin to the elk. In this area of the Scottish highlands, they're smaller than the

red deer are in many areas. Certainly smaller than you'd find them in Argentina or New Zealand.

They're in fact about the size of a really big mule deer or even a

big northern Whitel. So I'm sitting here you can probably hear the fireplace crackling

in the background again with my good friends Rob Gearing
