Hi, everyone. It is 4 o'clock here in New York. I'm Alicia Menendez. In for Nicole Wallace. No shortage of questions for the Trump administration officials caught texting about airstrikes in a private group chat with a reporter. How could this have happened?

Why were they using a messaging app to talk war plans?

Were crimes committed?

And after a breach of national security, so severe that the reporter that broke the story

almost did not believe it was happening, should they resign?

Some of those questions were up front and center at a Senate hearing with two

of the members of that group chat, CIA director John Radcliffe and D&I Tulsi Gabbard, both of them

on defense. At first, Tulsi Gabbard tried to dodge questions about just what happened.

Director Gabbard, did you participate in the group chat with Secretary of Defense and other

Trump senior officials discussing the Yemen war plans?

Senator, I don't want to get into this.

Madam, did you, were you on, you're not going to be willing to address.

So you're not, are you denying, Matt, will you answer my question, ma'am? You are not TG on this group chat.

I'm not going to get into the specific. Just a few seconds later, Director Radcliffe admitted that he was on the chat.

He added that using the signal app for messaging was allowed. You said the app had started during the Biden administration, he said.

My communications, to be clear, in a signal message group, were entirely permissible and

lawful and did not include classified information.

Senator, I'll reiterate that there was no classified material that was shared in that

signal. They insist. No classified information was shared. But here's how Atlantic editor
