Hey everybody welcome back to cold case murder mysteries. I'm your host Ryan Kraus

returning for a highly anticipated series of episodes covering

the infamous Delphi murders.

On the afternoon of February 13th, 2017, two girls, 14-year-old Liberty German, and her best friend, 13-year-old Abigail

Williams, were dropped off at the Monon High Bridge Trail in Delphi, Indiana in order to go for a short hike through nature

on the first warm day of winter. But they never returned. As darkness loomed on the horizon and temperatures dropped, any attempt to reach

Libby on her phone was met with silence.

The police were called and the children reported missing.

But nobody in this small town of approximately 3,000 residents

could have known the horrors that were waiting to be unveiled.

Teens are often unhappy with their home lives,

and whether they run away with the intention of never returning,

or just stay out late without calling to claim a stake in their plight for independence and autonomy,

most of these incidents end with parents breathing a deep sigh of relief

and admonishing the kids to never do something so stupid again.

But this time, it wasn't like that.

That sigh of relief would be a collective gasp of unspeakable horror.

After failing to locate the girls that night,

darkness and fog precluded law enforcement's initial search, and it didn't officially continue until perhaps

close to 10 a.m. the next morning, which was February 14th, Valentine's Day. By 12.15 PM, a black Nike sneaker was found on one side of Deer Creek

just upstream from the Monon High Bridge it runs beneath.
