So early on in the book, you write, I'm a liar, I'm a thief, I'm highly manipulative,

I don't care what other people think, rules do not factor in my decision-making,

I'm capable of almost anything.

And in a few reviews online, that's led people to wonder about the veracity of

your memoir. You know, if you don't care about rules, then should we be wary of what was written.

What do you make of that? I understand it. Listen, I know that my stories are true, but I also

understand that not everybody is going to believe that.

Patrick Gagney is a sociopath, which is a word that conjures all kinds of images and emotions,

but she isn't what you'd perhaps imagine typically when you imagine a sociopath.

So she's not a murderer, although she has been violent in the past.

She's not in prison, although she has done criminal things in the past. She's a mother, a wife, she's a PhD, and she's an author. In fact,

her book is called sociopath, a memoir. I think what's more problematic is less the skepticism

and more that, you know, I'm finding by virtue of the

fact that I have outed myself as a sociopath, that some people are reacting to me ideas of who I am

and more concerning who they want me to be. They want me to be a liar. They want me to be fake.

They want me to be that stereotypical sociopath. And I find that to be a liar. They want me to be fake. They want me to be that stereotypical sociopath.

And I find that to be particularly problematic because if people are going to insist on their

version of sociopathy being the only version, this extreme untreatable, unrepresented version,

then other people like me are going to be very reluctant to come forward,

very reluctant to seek treatment. They won't want to advocate for themselves. And that's my,
