My colleague, Skrag Cole's and Parles Agel, will join me to talk about the year in poetry.

I mean, this was also a year where there's a lot of conversation about poetry that left

the poetry world.

There's a lot of controversy, and we actually have an essay that talks a little bit about

the way that poetry has been reckoning with race.

George Saunders will be here to tell you about the one and only children's book he's written,

and what makes writing for kids so hard.

They didn't like the stories where somebody vanquished somebody, you know, where there

was a bad person and the hero killed them or someone, or just one, but they liked it

when there was a quiet victory followed by a kind of a redemption of the enemy a little

bit, you know.
