My Divo. In it I explore the life and legacy of Mexican icon Juan Gabrielle.

Juana, as he's most commonly known,

was one of Latin America's most prolific composers and showmen

and in my eyes, one of the most consequential queer icons of our time.

I want to tell you what led me to Huangga and this podcast.

As you all know, when I started writing anything for Salina, I was living on the East Coast and I was thinking a lot about belonging, asking myself how I fit in in the U.S.

The country my parents immigrated to.

But then I moved back to the place that made me, the border.

And I spent more time with a desert, my family, my roots. But I was different than when I left. I was now an openly queer woman and for

the last couple of years I've been navigating that, how I can hold on to my roots while my queerness blooms.

And Huanga, whose queerness bloomed in his own way, and who's from here, from the city I was born, from the place I'm rooted in, felt like the

right guide in this moment in my life.

So I'm going to play you the first episode here.
