Summary

Is the Pope Woke? There have been many off-the-cuff statements uttered by the Pope that would seem to suggest that he is a lot more Left-wing than Pope John Paul or Benedict, but is it true that the Pope allowed an idol in the Vatican or reversed church teaching on homosexuality? Is the vast majority of the reporting being manipulated by the media, or is the truth somewhere in between?

And some of it, you know, reported by the press, potentially manipulated by the press. And it's got a lot of people wondering what exactly this Pope Francis believe. And I think a lot of people, too, who are not Catholic, which is me, also kind of wonder,

what does it mean when Catholics refer to papal infallibility?

0:28.8

Does that mean he's right on everything he talks about?

0:31.3

Or is it more of a kind of unique and special authority limited to just certain topics?

Well, those are the questions that we're going to be

0:37.7

discussing today, and I can't think of a better person to discuss it with than one of my favorite

Catholic apologist Trent Horn from the Council of Trent. How are you doing?

0:46.6

I'm doing well, Nick. Well, hey, thank you very much for coming in here. And again,

explaining to me a mere filthy Protestant, some of the aspects of Catholic theology

and the way that someone who I would say based off of everything I've seen on the things

that you say on the positions that you take, I would say that ideologically we're very

much aligned.

1:07.2

And so I'm always curious how someone that, you know, again, maybe politically would be considered more on the right, would interpret some of the things that the Pope has said.

1:16.3

And so I hope we can get to some of that today.

1:18.9

First things first, when Catholics talk about like papal infallibility, what exactly is meant by that?

1:26.4

Sure.

1:27.0

What it means is that the Pope is given a special

gift from God or a charism to lead the church so that when he formally teaches in a particular way,

1:36.9

when he speaks ex-cathedra from the chair, the chair of St. Peter, on issues of faith and morals,

when he speaks in these very limited circumstances,

God will prevent him from binding the church to error, to errors in faith and morals. So I think
