I'm Susie Weizmann and this is Jacobin Radio. We begin today with Iran the site of a massive uprising since the end of

December that spread to every corner of the country. Kevin Harris, UCLA

sociologist and Iran expert joins us to explain the underlying structural factors that

have added to the heightened levels of discontent with the Iranian political establishment,

the persistent poverty and inequality that are driving it but are not the whole story and how the grievances of workers, pensioners, teachers, and students ignited the country to protest the Rouhani regime's economic performance

and press for social justice.

Also on Jacobin radio today we talked to economist Dean Baker from the Center for Economic

Research who has some innovative ideas about how California can get around the

tax cut plan passed by the Republicans that directly target California and other relatively

high tax states that also have relatively decent public services.

We'll also get his take on the state of the economy, unemployment and wage growth,

whether we're in a new bubble and why the media does such a bad job informing the
