Welcome to our new project, the Daily Bible Devotional. The goal is to help you understand and apply

scripture as you go through a New Testament Bible read five days a week, Monday through Friday,

as we move from Matthew straight through to Revelation. In under four minutes each morning, we will recap the chapter,

make some application, present thought questions for the day, and offer a prayer together.

I'm excited about exploring God's word with you, so let's get started. Good morning. Our study today is

from John the 6th chapter. Jesus feeds 5,000 people with five loaves and two fish.

The people proclaim him as the prophet of God. They want to make him king, so he withdraws to the mountains.

His disciples then cross the sea to Copernium. Several miles out in high winds, Jesus walks to them on the water.

He gets in the boat, and they are immediately at the land.

The crowd from the previous day crosses the sea looking for him.

Jesus explains that they come to be fed, but that he is the bread of life.

All who digest his words will be raised on the last day and live forever.

Sadly, many are confused and leave him, but the 12 apostles remain saying,

quote, Lord, to whom shall we go, you have the words of eternal life.

Awesome.

Here's some things for our benefit from this chapter today. Jesus

performs physical signs to validate spiritual messages. When he feeds the people, some think of him

as a source of physical blessings. But the miracle is simply to demonstrate that he is the source

and sustainer of life. His nourishment is truth, love, and forgiveness.

He fills us with his goodness and spiritual promises

so our souls will never lack and we will live forever.

God gave Israel manna, but they died in the wilderness.
