Hello and welcome to the Sophie Ridge on Sunday podcast. The summer term has come to an end,

so it was appropriate that this week we spoke to the education secretary, Justine Greening. We were also joined by the newly crowned leader of the Lib Dem, Servants Cable and Labour's Barry Gardner. And of course, MP have noticed that I'm not Sophie.

She's headed off for an early summer break, leaving me to man the fort.

And this week, MPs packed their bags, said goodbye to their friends and headed back to their constituencies for the summer recess, a time to recharge, refresh and take stock.

And to be honest, it's probably a good thing because it's been a pretty crazy few months with the drama of the general election at the start of the Brexit negotiations.

Before she disappeared, Sophie managed to catch up with the Education Secretary Justine Greening

and asked her about the changes she wants to make to the gender reassignment process.

Today we're announcing that in the autumn we'll be launching a consultation on reforming the Gender Recognition Act.

And at the moment, if you want to change your gender it's a very complicated process it's quite

intrusive as well and it's it's very bound up in going to see your GP in a whole

medical process that then gets kicked off what we want to do is try and streamline

the process make it easier de-medicalize it and make it less intrusive and we'll
