Summary

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the Distraction Pieces Podcast with Scroobius Pip!

This week Pip is joined by two very special guests - musician and actor KATE NASH and multi-discipline performer and activist MAEDB JOY!

An absolutely crucial episode at any given moment, but especially poignant now with things as they are. This description will of course not do justice to the entire hour-plus conversation but let's just say, whatever your reaction might be to the term 'sex work', you'll find a huge amount to love and learn from this one. You'll likely have seen the commotion surrounding Kate's 'Butts For Tour Buses' campiagn, which aimed to shine a light on the broken music industry while generating some income to sustain her own music career - Kate goes into all of that and so much more, and is joined by Maedb who is a huge influence and massively respected creative presence on the scene. A delightful and empassioned conversation, held in perfect balance, and one which will do a lot to deliver information, clarity, perspective and context at a time when such things are tough to come by. Enjoy, investigate, and take it all in.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. This is the Distraction Pieces podcast episode 609 and what a special episode we have.

0:08.5

We've just come off International Women's Day at the weekend and this episode is with two of the most inspiring and wonderful and amazing women I've been lucky enough to sit down and have a conversation with.

0:22.3

I'm joined this week by Kate Nash and Maeve Joy. I give kind of introductions as to who they are,

0:28.3

but to give a little background, you know Kate Nash is, obviously, but Kate Nash has been

0:32.9

on before. I've known Kate for a long old time. Go and check our previous conversation for kind of how we met and all that kind of thing.

0:41.0

And Kate's always been a real advocate for action and change and, yeah, an activism.

0:47.5

And at the end of last year, Kate launched an only fans to help support her touring and really use that moment and that bit of media, I guess,

0:58.4

to push the issues in the music industry and to promote the positivity of sex work

1:06.7

and to try and remove the taboos.

1:09.5

So I reached out to Kate and said, I'd love to have you on to chat,

1:12.2

but I felt that this was a conversation that shouldn't be 50-50 male and female voice.

1:18.1

And sadly, as it's my podcast, there's always going to be a male voice. I also didn't want it to be

1:23.8

100% music industry voice. I wanted to get someone who has experience in the sex work world.

1:30.6

And I spoke to a variety of amazing people.

1:32.5

I spoke to Reid Amber and Florence Given of the Come Curious podcast,

1:36.8

who've previously been on this podcast.

1:38.3

They're fantastic.

1:39.1

You should check that episode out and their podcast out.

1:42.6

The first chunk of this episode, this conversation,

1:45.1

is basically the three of us absolutely gushing over that wonderful podcast. I also spoke to

1:51.8

Pamela Blonde, who's a wonderful advocate and activist and someone with loads of experience

1:56.1

in various areas of the sex work industry in Scotland, who actually at the moment is doing or has organized.
