On the chilly fall evening of November 8, 2007, 24-year-old Kyle Fleischmann went to dinner, drinks, and a show with friends in Charlotte, North Carolina. The evening was a celebratory affair- a friend's birthday, another friend's recent job change. However, the night didn't end on a festive note when friends went their separate ways, and Kyle seemingly vanished into the night, leaving behind only a small number of telling but mysterious clues. More than 13 years have passed, and the last sightings of Kyle include some grainy surveillance footage and the eyewitness account of a cab driver, who watched Kyle walk down the street and disappear from view, and seemingly, life.
If you have any information about Kyle Fleischmann’s disappearance, you are asked to call the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department at 704-336-7600.

0:06.0 | That's what's so mind-vagling and troubling about this is, I mean, he literally vanished almost completely off the face of the earth that night without a phrase. |
0:33.0 | And no good evidence or pointers or anything to help figure out what the heck happened. |
0:40.0 | It feels like it was just this myriad of bad luck in the sense that like, there's terrible footage, there's not enough footage, somehow there's no cell phone pinging with super unreliable and inconsistent at that point in time. |
0:57.0 | I mean, literally no reliable witnesses that I know that could say definitively they saw Kyle Lee for where he went or what he did. |
1:08.0 | So much speculation, it's really hard to know. I loved him like a brother, I have no idea. And I was there that night. It's a completely unexplainable feeling. |
1:24.0 | On the chilly fall evening of November 8, 2007, 24-year-old Kyle Flashtman went to dinner, drinks, and a show with friends in Charlotte, North Carolina. |
1:36.0 | The evening was a celebratory affair. One friend's birthday and another's recent job change. But the night didn't end on a festive note when friends went their separate ways and Kyle seemingly vanished into the night, leaving behind only a small number of telling but mysterious, clear, clear. |
1:53.0 | But mysterious clues. More than 13 years have passed in the last sightings of Kyle are some grainy surveillance footage and the eyewitness account of a cab driver who watched Kyle walk down the street and disappear from view and seemingly life. |
2:09.0 | Amarissa and from Wondery, this is episode 276 of The Vanished. Kyle Flashtman's story. |
2:39.0 | Kyle Flashtman had his entire life ahead of him. He had finished college, completed a few internships, and was finding his way in the competitive world of finance, where he planned to start his career. |
2:55.0 | He maintained friendships with the people he had grown close to in college, and those bonds continued to remain strong after graduation. We spoke to Daniel, Kyle's roommate from college, and one of the people he was out with the night he disappeared. |
3:10.0 | We asked Daniel to tell us about Kyle. |
3:13.0 | Kyle's personality was, gosh, how do I describe it? He was a super positive guy. He was one of those folks that, you know, kind of when he walked into a room, the light shined on him. |
3:27.0 | He was very positive, very upbeat, very charismatic. He loved to joke. He had a very sarcastic sense of humor, but a lot of people appreciated, and I don't know if he knew anyone he didn't like. He was one of those kind of people that could make friends with anybody it seemed like, and pretty much everybody liked him. |
3:49.0 | So he had one of those kind of infectious personalities that people asked on to. We both went to Elon University together. We started there in 2002, and our freshman year both lived in the same dorm. Our suites were side by side. |
4:07.0 | So, Kyle's kind of an acquaintance in terms of when we first got to school and living close to each other, and then later in the year, we ended up pledging the same fraternity both in that joining that fraternity. |
4:23.0 | And that's, you know, when we came to be much closer friends, we lived in the fraternity house together briefly, and then after we both moved out of the fraternity house, our senior year actually, Kyle lives like right behind my apartment. |
4:38.0 | He more or less lived in my apartment, and a few other roommates that we had, because he had an apartment to himself. So he tend to spend most of this time over at our place. |
4:49.0 | That was how and when we met and kind of how our friendship started. |
4:54.0 | Kyle enjoyed close relationships with friends and family members, and was especially close to his dad, Dick. We were able to speak with him as well, and asked him to share who Kyle was with us. |
5:06.0 | Yeah, he was definitely a people person. Y'all calling, I guess he was a very good nature. You know, it was a very good athlete, but he didn't have that drive where, you know, he had to beat everybody out. He would be the first to say, you know, you go ahead, all this way. |
