It said that Emperor Nero fiddled while Rome burned, but Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass did no such thing.

She just took a taxpayer-funded trip to the Paris Olympics while cutting $17 million from the fire department's budget and ignoring the cries of her fire chief.

Actually, I got that totally wrong.

She took three.

Three taxpayer-funded trips to the Paris Olympics. The Olympics lasted two weeks.

What is that? An 11-hour flight each way? Twelve hours, Bill? What is that?

That sounds about right? Yeah, about 11 hours. But, you know, hey, think of the miles here.

about how the state of California and the city and county of Los Angeles did everything

contrary to mitigating, you know, these inevitable wildfires. But what's interesting to me,

gentlemen, is that on Monday, the New York Times,

which is usually not unfavorable to Democrats, they ran a brutal hit piece on Bass talking about

these trips to Paris, trips to Mexico, trips to Africa. They detailed how she promised during

the primaries in 2022 that she would not travel outside of California.

She said the only city she'd go to would be like San Francisco and Sacramento and San Diego, all California stuff.

And the New York Times said, and this is supposed to be a straight news story, but the New York Times said, and this is a quote,

that pledge has been spectacularly broken.

Bill, you're an L.A. guy. You know the drill. The NYT sets the tone for how other news outlets,

including Los Angeles Times, cover a story. Do you think Bass is going to be

made to take the fall to protect Newsom, Gavin Newsom, and his presidential hopes?

The word on the ground here is that they might both be going down.
