October 21st, 2009. Northway Stairlines Flight 188, an Airbus A320 with 149 people on board,

is at cruising altitude on a flight from San Diego, California to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The aircraft passes over Denver, Colorado, then goes silent. Air traffic control can see the

plane on radar, but attempts to reach the crew are unsuccessful. Nearby planes, the airline,

and air traffic control all try to contact the crew, but receive no response.

The White House is briefed on the situation, and fighter jets are put on alert and start to scramble.

Finally, after the aircraft has passed Minneapolis, and 78 minutes of silence have gone by,

the crew respond to the radio. October 20th, 1986.
