Hey everybody welcome back to Colcase Murder Mysteries. I'm your host

Ryan Krauss and today we're taking a deep dive into the film Longlegs in which a young FBI Special Agent tracks down a serial killer who has a personal connection to her childhood.

This is a movie that was heavily promoted as a must-see horror

thriller in the vein of Silence of the Lambs and has left both critics and audiences split as to whether it was truly as effective,

creepy, and scary as the trailer suggested it would be.

In contrast to the deeply psychological interactions of Clarice Starling and Dr. Hannibal Lecter in

Silence of the Lambs, Longlegs instead adopts a more symbolic and interpretive narrative that

delves into the realm of dark surrealism.

Simply put, it's a film that leaves the viewer asking what it all meant,

in perhaps the same manner is waking up from a nightmare

and remembering the haunting images and seemingly nonsensical

interactions.

A logical foray into this strange tale doesn't quite satisfy the greatest desire of the audience, which is to leave the theater with emotional truth.

We immerse ourselves into a film with the hope that we will not only be entertained by the roller coaster of dramatic expression,

but also by the end that we will be able to view the film through our personal lens of experience

no matter how different the movie might be from our own life.

And finally, when the images turn to darkness, say to ourselves with the greatest certainty that life is like that.

We desire the emotional truth that the protagonist has led us to, whether delivered in a successful

lesson learned by the character,

leading to change, or in tragedy, both of which are equally effective.

The important part is that the lesson is apparent. Longlegs, however, doesn't make that aspect of the

narrative easily digestible for the audience, as it indulges a great deal of symbolism that is not
