Summary

Entry #33. This is one of my favorite episodes to date. I have been living with mental illness (bipolar II + ocd) for almost half my life, and it's something that feels present in my closest relationships. I've also supported loved ones through their own difficult times of depression. Today on Prologues, I'm combining both sides of that experience to offer thoughts and advice on loving someone through depression - both loving someone going through depression, and being a good partner to someone else when I'm depressed. I hope you enjoy this episode - if you like Prologues, it helps the show so much to give it a positive rating/review wherever you listen to your podcasts. Welcome to Prologs. My name is Mary, and when I get overwhelmed and start feeling behind,

0:23.0

I find it helpful to zoom out and remind myself that I am still in the beginning of my story.

0:28.1

I'm sharing all of my life's chapters, mental health, relationships, wellness, beauty,

0:33.5

the chaos of being in my 20s, and all of life's unexpected turns.

Prologs is the best way to start your week, so join me every Monday morning for a new entry into my digital journal.

Hello, everyone. Welcome back to another episode of Prologs. I've been procrastinating

0:49.3

recording this episode today because we're talking about loving someone through depression.

0:55.8

And whenever I have a somewhat more emotionally vulnerable episode to record, I always find myself procrastinating.

1:01.5

It takes me a minute to get in the headspace to talk about these types of things.

1:06.2

But this has not only been a highly requested episode topic since I started prologs, but it's also something

1:12.5

that's really relevant to my life, and I hope that it's also helpful to other people out there

1:17.0

listening to this right now. Loving someone through depression, I intentionally left the episode

1:23.1

title a little bit vague because I want to approach this from both sides of the coin. First, I want to

1:29.0

talk about loving someone else who's going through a period of depression. And then I also want to

1:34.0

talk about loving your partner or being a good partner to someone else. I guess you could also

1:40.8

apply this to being a good friend or any type of relationship dynamic,

1:44.9

but loving someone else while you are going through a period of depression. I don't think this

1:49.6

will be the only episode I ever record on this topic. I think this is a living idea and like a

1:54.5

living lesson for me. As time goes on, as I continue to live with my diagnoses, I'm sure I'll come to new conclusions and maybe

2:03.8

have new realizations. I don't know. I think this will probably be a repeat topic as time goes

2:10.4

on. But I'm excited for it. Even though I was procrastinating, I am excited for that I think this is

2:15.4

going to be a great addition to the prologs library.
