Summary

Rest in Peace, Aaron. Free Palestine!

"To burn oneself by fire is to prove that what one is saying is of the utmost importance. There is nothing more painful than burning oneself. To say something while experiencing this kind of pain is to say it with utmost courage, frankness, determination, and sincerity."

- Thich Nhat Hanh in a letter to MLK Jr. regarding the self-immolation of Vietnamese Buddhist monks

is Aaron Bushnell. I am an active duty member of the United States Air Force and I will no longer be complicit in genocide.

0:18.8

I'm about to engage in an extreme active protest but compared to what people have been experiencing in Palestine at the hands of their colonizers is not extreme at all.

0:26.2

This is what our ruling class has decided will be normal. I think this is a deeply emotional topic.

0:43.3

I mean, the cause of his self-immolation

0:46.4

is already a deeply emotional topic.

dismissing it as as mental illness. One of the things that sticks out to me is

1:21.0

the complete lack of almost anyone taking a step back to try and

1:28.2

absorb and process this tragedy.

1:31.4

Of course we're all quick to you know if we have social media to go out

1:35.3

there and drop our hot takes and immediately start going to to battle with people

1:39.4

who have terrible takes and in human takes but there's just a complete inability and a complete

1:45.1

unwillingness apparently for huge swaths of people to just refuse to look this in the

1:50.9

eye, to take a moment of, regardless of what your opinion is, to be humbled

1:55.3

by this, you know, incredibly courageous and selfless act of self-sacrifice, even before you can

2:01.6

generate your hot take, right? just to have a profound moment of reflection

2:05.6

But that's obviously not very possible in today's

2:09.2

ecosystem But I guess the first place to probably start we're gonna get into all of this and you know this is not a super scripted or outlined episode

2:16.2

This is going to be very organic for better or worse, but I feel like that's the best way to sort of address something like this
