You probably know it’s important to reduce stress for your mental health, but did you know stress can impact your body all the way down to the level of gene expression and immune system activation? Dr. Slavich recently joined me for a live Q&A-style webinar hosted by CrossFit Health with a focus on stress and its effects on health.

why would the brain and the immune system talk to one another?

But just believe me for right now that they do, the brain can pick up the red phone,

call the immune system, tell it to turn on when it needs to turn on.

And the immune system can do a bunch of things that we really care about. And we primarily

care about the immune system because what we found is that more than 50% of deaths worldwide

today involve inflammation. So most people today, everybody on this call, you likely

won't die, hopefully, from a communicable disease. You're more likely to die from an immune or

an inflammatory related chronic disease. And so that's the part about why we care about the

immune system. And of course, a lot of these disorders are stress related. And so putting together

the psychology of our experience with the neuroscience of how we experience and appraise stressors

together with the immunology that we know drives disease is a perfect combination to try to

understand how things that we experience in daily life actually impact our our our behavior in our
