An international team of geologists have reached deeper into the Earth's mantle than anyone ever,

and it's not even close. They were able to extract rock samples

from a depth of 4,160 feet. The old record was 659 feet. They literally

went over six times as deep as the previous record.

That is incredible, but I am a little bit confused. Don't get me wrong, 4,100 feet is creeping up on a mile deep, but I always thought we drilled like a lot farther than that.
