Hello and welcome to the Safeway Ridge on Sunday podcast. I travelled to Nottingham this week to do my show

and I spoke to a couple of local MPs, the Conservative, Anna Subrey, and the former Labour Foreign Secretary, Margaret Beckett.

I also spoke to Alan Johnson, the man described by some,

as the best leader Labour never had as he stands down from Parliament.

Now, when I started my show back in January,

I was very keen to get out of London and travel around the UK.

London can become a bit of a bubble, we all know that, and it's easy to forget that things elsewhere can be very different.

So this week I travelled to Nottingham and I spoke to some local people and local politicians about issues that affect every part of the country.

In nearby Derby, Margaret Beckett has been an MP since 1983.

She's the longest serving female MP in British history and became only the second woman to hold one of the great offices of state when she became Foreign Secretary in 2006.

So she really has been there and done it and she doesn't plan to stop. She's standing

again in the current election. But this was a bad week for her party as they suffered some pretty
