Hello and welcome to another Sochiology 101 live. I am responding to our friend J.D. Martin from the Socrates 101 page. We've had him on the broadcast a couple of times. He's a friend of ours. That's somewhat of a moderate Calvinist. I call him a little bit of an inconsistent Calvinist because some of the things that he says don't seem consistent to me. I'm sure his view, it seems consistent

0:21.1

to him, and just like he might think that my view doesn't seem consistent to him either.

0:26.9

But what I want to discuss today is a broadcast he did with regard to Mark Chapter 4,

0:32.8

in specific with regard to the hardening or the blinding of Israel.

0:39.4

Now, this is one of the major issues that convinced me to leave Calvinism,

0:45.3

and this is one of the reasons I'm pretty passionate about this particular topic.

0:49.6

The hardening issue, the concept of judicial hardening versus, you know,

play JD in his broadcast where he confronts our take on Mark chapter four, I want you to get kind of a

1:13.0

picture of what judicial hardening is in comparison to self-hardening.

1:17.8

And this is in my book as well as on the website if you want to look at this and get a little

1:22.6

bit of better picture of what we believe with regard to hardening.

1:26.0

And so to be clear on this point, there are two kinds of hardening that are referred to in

1:29.7

scripture.

1:30.8

And there are citations in my book with the sources for all of this if you want to go deeper.

1:36.7

I think it's on page 27.

1:38.3

If you've got the book, you can look it up.

1:40.4

Self-hardening is where a morally accountable person who was able to refrain or not refrain from given moral actions, in other words, they're libertarianly free, this person grows stubborn or they grow calloused in their own ways.

1:56.1

And so people aren't born already calloused fully.

2:00.0

In other words, they are able to see spiritually, hear

2:03.4

spiritually, understand spiritual things brought to us by God through the means that he has chosen.
