Summary

This week, Pastor Suzy Silk continued our sermon series on Missional Formation by focusing on the distinctive of Discipling the Deficits and the discipline of confessing sin as keys to being counter-formed from the ways of the world into the ways of Jesus. Pastor Suzy called us to walk in freedom by regularly inviting the Holy Spirit to search our hearts, confessing specific sins regularly, and committing to accountability in a trusted group. Confession and obedience lead to greater freedom, intimacy with God, and the increased ability to reflect His image in the world.

0:00.0	Tonight our teaching text comes from 1.5 through 1.6.
0:09.8	This is the message we have heard from him and declared to you. God is light, and in him there is no darkness at all.
0:19.0	If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in darkness,
0:22.5	we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have
0:28.0	fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, his son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be
0:34.9	without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.
0:38.9	If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
0:46.8	If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.
0:52.5	My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin,
0:56.5	but if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous one.
1:02.7	He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours, but also for the sins of the
1:08.3	whole world. We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.
1:14.1	Whoever says, I know him, but does not do what he commands as a liar, and the truth is not in that person.
1:20.0	But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them.
1:24.9	This is how we know we are in him. Whoever claims to live in him must live
1:28.9	as Jesus did. This is the word of the Lord. You can have a seat. Today we are in week five of our
1:40.7	missional formation series in which we've been talking about the distinctives of a
1:44.6	compelling missional disciple. A person who's marked by the tangible presence of God is counterformed
1:49.9	out of the ways of the world and into the ways of Jesus and a person who's giving their life
1:54.0	to join Jesus in sacrificial mission. Today we move on from the category of tangible presence
1:59.8	to the category of counterformation. And as disciples of Jesus, we move on from the category of tangible presence to the category of counterformation.
2:02.8	And as disciples of Jesus, we want to be counterformed out of the ways of the world and formed
