Hello, everyone, and welcome to Slash Film Daily. Today is Monday, December 2nd, 2024 on today's

0:05.4

episode of the show. I'm going to talk a little bit about the weekends box office numbers.

0:09.2

My name is Ben Pearson. I'm an editor at slashfilm.com, and I wanted to mention two things at the top

0:14.5

of today's show. First of all, it's just going to be me, Ryan Scott, who normally is here on Monday to talk about box office stuff with me is not

0:21.2

available. I don't think for, maybe for the rest of this week. So I will be manning this episode

0:28.2

solo and trying to do my best to bring you guys a little bit of box office information here.

0:33.2

Obviously, Ryan's the expert in that category. So I'll do my best in his stead. And the second

0:38.1

thing I'll mention is that you might be able to tell from my voice, I'm finding a bit of a cold.

0:43.0

So if I sound strange, that might be why or stranger than usual anyway. So I apologize for that.

0:50.1

If there's anything bizarre going on with my voice. That is what's happening there.

0:55.4

Also, this is going to be a shorter episode than normal because, as I mentioned, Ryan really

0:59.9

knows his stuff when it comes to this. And I'm definitely more flailing compared to our normal

1:05.4

conversations since I'm running this one all by myself today. Okay, so with all of that said,

1:12.7

holy cow, what a Thanksgiving at the box office. So there was a massive, massive record shattering Thanksgiving five-day

1:19.3

stretch here. More than $425 million in ticket sales across all of the movies of the box office,

1:26.1

which really obliterates the previous Thanksgiving record of $316 million all the way back in 2018.

1:33.3

A big part of the reason for that, of course, is Moana 2.

1:37.0

This movie was projected to have a five-day opening somewhere in the $120 to $135 million range, but it actually pulled in almost double the lower

1:47.0

end of expectations. I think the final numbers that I saw just a few minutes ago were a $225.2

1:55.0

$2.5.2 over the five-day holiday period, which is pretty staggering. And that's just domestic

2:00.1

numbers. So Moana 2 earned

2:02.2

$389 million in its global opening, breaking the record for the biggest global opening
