When you read an almost constant diatribe against the false gods of other religions,

that they are seen as not competing deities but as useless idols. In fact the prophets

characteristically make fun of people who worship trees, who worship statues, who worship trees who worship statues who worship those things that they have

made with their own hands. From the Old Testament to the new, the people of God have always affirmed belief in one God.

Not that he is first among many, but that he is the only one true and living God.
