Hey all. I'm Joe Piazza and you're listening to Committed. Today's relationship is one that I think about a lot. It's a relationship between a mother and her adult daughter.

When Susie Hopkins' husband of 30 years, unexpectedly left her to pursue an old flame,

who just happened to be a marriage counselor, of all things, the grief and disorientation she felt was so overwhelming that she thought her own heart might stop from the

pain of it all. She had no idea how to take that first step forward after losing such an integral

part of her life. The answer was to go through the grief, and to go through it with the help

of her grown daughter,

Hallie Bateman. Hallie was Susie's rock as she was figuring out what to do with this next

phase of her life that was going to look completely different than what she'd expected.

And as they went through that process together, they thought maybe they could help other women.

Now, Susie and Halley had worked together on projects before.

Susie's a journalist, an author, and Halle's an artist, and New Yorker illustrator.

As they mind Susie's grief, they started on a book called What to Do When You Get Dumped.

A unique and heartfelt look at loss and love.

Because I am a mom of two little girls and all I want is for us to, you know,

when we're all grownups in the world to do things together and to create things together.

So what you two have done is so inspiring to me.
