On this episode of Black Girl Gone, I tell the story of the Trees Curtis,

a 21-year-old woman who was found dead on the side of a highway, on January 30, 2008, and Raleigh, North Carolina.

The Trees was a college student and a newlywed, but on January 29th, the night before she was found,

she called her husband to tell him that she was on the way home after class, and she was stopping to get food.

But the Trees never made it home.

Two days after she was found, an arrest was made.

But when the killer is identified as a local minister and former pastor,

At the beginning of 2008, the Trees was living in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her newlywed husband, Darren.

The couple had gotten married April 27, 2007, after dating for a few months.

After previously attending Bennett College and Wake Forest Tech,

the Trees enrolled at the University of North Carolina Central, where she was majoring in accounting.

She was also working part-time at a local seers.
