So according to Matthew 2.1, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the

King, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem. But this translation is problematic.

The Greek text doesn't say just that that wise men came from the East. It says that

Maygai came to visit the baby Jesus. So who were the Maygai and how did they know to come to

look for Jesus? And that's what we'll be talking about on this episode of Jimmy Akin's Mysterious World.

First Jimmy, I understand you'd like to start by dispelling a few myths about the

Maygai. What are they? Well, so a lot of the ideas that we grow up with are inspired really by

Christmas cards that kind of take different elements from the Gospels and particularly Matthew and

Luke and then compress them down together as if they all happened on Christmas day on the original

Christmas day. And that so you you have like the shepherds there and you have the wise men there

and it's like guys these didn't show up at the same time. The wise men so-called wise men

did not arrive the night Jesus was born. It was up to two years later. They were not still

Jesus was not a little baby in a manger. They were living in a house and he was a toddler

or at least a larger baby. They're also probably were not three of them. You know, there's they're
