My guest today is one of my favourite authors, the incredibly inspiring force of nature that is Naomi Alderman! She is the multi-award-winning novelist of Disobedience and The Power. The film adaptation of Disobedience had just come out starring both Rachael McAdams and Rachel Weisz. The Power is one of Obama's favourite books! It's an incredible sci-fi/dystopian novel about gendered violence and the fetishisation of power. The premise of the book is that women are more powerful than men. God becomes a “she”; and men are frightened to walk alone at night.
We discuss life as a polymath, what it's like having Rachel Weisz ring you up and want to turn your book into a film and how to know whether something is a good or bad idea when it comes to creating stuff. Thank you, Naomi. <3

0:10.0 | I think it's my best book yet, so I'm excited for it to come out. And the book unpicks the eight success myths from happiness to money, to productivity, to celebrity, to the idea of finally arriving, and how chasing a version of success that doesn't align with your values can really take you off track, and this book is about getting back to yourself. |
0:29.0 | Breaking free, finding a new way forward, and it's available on May the 18th. If you love this podcast, you'll love the book, and it's available soon from all good bookshops, so you can order yours now. I hope you like it. |

2:00.0 | Yeah, I think we need to paint a picture of the room first, anyway. So we're in an upstairs room at the Everyman Cinema in Hampstead, where I'm about to do a Q&A. |
2:08.0 | We are in a really strange, slightly chilly, slightly like the air is a bit damp, room. |
2:16.0 | It looks like at one point it was somebody's bedroom, there's a very old fashioned Victorian fireplace. |
2:21.0 | There's a poster of Chinatown above the fireplace, and above that, really to set the mood, the poster from the shining. |
2:28.0 | We're surrounded by boxes, which look like they've got... |
