In this episode, we're talking about the Nemesis Death Star Theory.

I'm Dom Bettenelli and joining me today is Jimmy Aiken. Hi Jimmy. Howdy Dom.

Until a few years ago, everybody knew what our solar system contained.

Some comments, some asteroids, nine planets in a star.

But then in 2006, the members of the International Astronomical Union who were present

at a particular meeting decided to demote Pluto from the status of a full planet,

meaning there were now only eight. In recent years, some have proposed that the solar system

contains another large planet, which the Pluto killers call planet nine.

But maybe the solar system contains something even more dramatic.

In the 1980s, evidence began to emerge that our solar system may contain more than one star,

and the second star, named Nemesis, may be responsible for the destruction of countless

life forms on Earth, earning it the nickname the Death Star.

Does our solar system contain more than one star? Is Nemesis real?

Is it a Death Star that periodically causes the mass extinction of life on Earth?

Is it a moon? That's no moon.

And that's what we'll be talking about on this episode of Jimmy Aiken's Mysterious World.

Okay, Jimmy. So let's begin by establishing our terminology.
