I'm your host, Stacey Abrams. People have always

been hungry for the news. Town criers used to belt out what the people needed to know

from the streets or in marketplaces.

Early newsletters became newspapers and when radio got pictures we got TV news.

When I was growing up to find out what happened in the world that day, you read the newspaper and you

watch the evening news. If you were lucky, you had three options. The NBC Nightly

News with Tom Brokaw. Good evening.

Good evening. The CBS Evening News with Dan Rather.

Dateline Darran Saudi Arabia.

A car truck bomb has exploded in an area where 2,000 U.S. servicemen and their families live.

And our family favorite, ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.

Astonishing news from East Germany, where the East German authorities have said in essence

that the Berlin Wall doesn't mean anything anymore. And to be fair, CNN had Bernard

Shaw and PBS gave us Robert McNeil and Jim Lara. Unfortunately, no women anchored the evening newscast, only in daytime,

and no one was my age.

Then, something radical happened in the late 1980s and early 90s.
