Derek, let's start with probably the biggest news in the U.S. press this past week, which was

the passing of Pope Francis. So what happened? Did a Pope die? A Pope did die. Pope Francis

has been unwell for quite some time, as I'm sure people are aware.

He died on Monday. He had recovered. He'd been in the hospital with double pneumonia, very serious.

There was some concern. When he was in the hospital, he was never going to get out of it.

But he did. He did recover enough to resume some of his duties, but he died on Monday

after suffering, according to Vatican officials, a stroke and cardiac arrest. He was 88 years old.

As I said, he's been unwell for quite some time. This was not terribly surprising, although it was

somewhat sudden, given that he had recovered from his previous illness.
