Here, as always, with my friend and comrade Derek

Davidson, and we are excited to bring you the news. Derek, let's get right into it and let's talk

about the Gaza truce expiring. The first phase of the ceasefire agreement, which was a six-week

truce with hostage exchanges, as people know, expired on Saturday. The hopes were that, at least in principle,

under the terms of the deal, Israel and Hamas were supposed to negotiate the details of a second

phase, which would have been a more open-ended ceasefire, Israeli eventual military withdrawal from Gaza,

et cetera, et cetera. None of that came to pass.

I'm not sure any negotiations really took place.

The Israelis in particular refused to even discuss the idea.

And so Saturday came and went without any sort of agreement.

There had been reporting in the days leading up to Saturday,

as everybody knew this deadline was approaching,

that the Israelis were pushing for an extension

of the first-phase truce based on a formula worked out
