Oh, hey there. I'm Brittany Luce. And I don't know, maybe this is a little out of pocket to say, but I think you should listen to my podcast. It's called It's Been a Minute, and I love it. And I think you will too. Over the past couple months, over 100,000 new listeners started tuning in. Find out why. Listen to the It's Been a Minute podcast from

NPR today. Live from NPR News in Washington, I'm Jack Spear. President Donald Trump has

0:30.6

signed a measure imposing steep tariffs on cars imported into the U.S. The 25% tariff on vehicles made in other countries and sold in the U.S.

0:40.1

will affect not just foreign companies, but also U.S. automakers who build cars in Canada and Mexico.

0:45.9

Trump says it will result in more cars being built here. We'll effectively be charging a 25% tariff,

0:51.2

but if you build your car in the United States, there is no tariff. And what that means

0:55.1

is a lot of foreign car companies. A lot of companies are going to be in great shape because they've

0:59.4

already built their plant. But their plants are underutilized, so they'll be able to expand them

1:03.7

inexpensively and quickly. Nearly half of all vehicles sold in the U.S. are imported. It is likely, at least

1:09.6

near term. The tariffs will raise prices for

1:12.2

consumers. That's at a time the average new vehicle price in the U.S. is approaching $50,000.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio was on a signal chat about strikes in Yemen. He faced questions about it

1:23.7

while on State Department business in Jamaica. Here's NPR's Michelle Kellerman.

1:27.5

Secretary Rubio says the signal chat was set up to coordinate plans and he only wrote in it

1:32.9

twice to name his point person and to congratulate his colleagues on the successful strike

1:38.0

against the Houthis in Yemen. Obviously, someone made a mistake. Someone made a big mistake

1:44.0

and added a journalist. Nothing against

1:46.0

journalists, but you ain't supposed to be on that thing. So they got on there and this happened.

1:49.7

He says he's confident that there was nothing in there that would have put American service

1:54.2

members in danger. This won't happen again, Rubio insists, adding, in his words, it can't.
