I'm Helena Bennett, senior policy advisor at Green Alliance, and today we're talking about nuclear fusion.

Fusion energy, unlike nuclear fission, which is what we have in our energy mix at the moment,

isn't yet with us. It's felt for a while like we're on the cusp of cracking it,

and with big breakthroughs just around the corner, is it time we start thinking about what our

future could look like with nuclear fusion energy? How might it help us solve the climate crisis?

And how do we govern the international collaborative efforts that it takes to deploy it?

We're going to see a lot of changes happening over the next 10 years.

I think it's going to be a really exciting decade.

We're already seeing a lot of changes in the fusion industry,

and we're seeing how much it's growing.

I'm delighted today to be joined by Dr. Melanie Windridge,

a specialist in fusion energy,

who helps others see the value and opportunities of fusion to society and to business.

Melanie has a PhD in plasma physics, is a communications consultant for the company

Tokamak Energy, and is the founder of Fusion Energy Insights. She was previously the UK director

of the Fusion Industry Association.

Melanie has also written two books and hosts a blog Science At Extremes on her website,

and she also writes for Forbes online. I'm delighted to be joined by Melanie Winbridge today.
