We spoke with Marcus Freeman and Ryan Day, the head coaches of Notre Dame and Ohio State on Sunday afternoon as the introductory press conference for the national championship game.

And Stefan, this ended up being pretty valuable because it just ended up being a bunch of injury updates. And so let's let's start with Ohio State.

Denzel Burke played 27 snaps in the second half against Texas of the Cotton Bowl. And

it just so happened that his last snap, he missed a tackle on a Texas drive and ended in a

touchdown because I think that was a third down

conversion that they had when he missed that tackle. And then we didn't see him again for the rest of

the game. Germain Matthews was out there, Ryan Day, did say he graded out as a champion,

but why didn't we see Denzo Burke at all in the second half against Texas?

They said it was due to an upper

extremity issue that Burke was dealing with and they felt like it was the best thing to do

and that time was to take him out. He said Denzel would be available against Nordaam

and a little bit afterward, I believe was Joey Kaufman from the Columbus Dispatch asked a follow up on Burke, straight up asking, was it just due to injury or was performance something that was part of it because he pointed out the mistackle like you did, Stephen.

And Day specifically said it was not due to performance.

It was 100% due to injury.
