Summary

Hey everyone. After the recent Thoughts On Ukraine episode, I thought it would be a good idea to bring someone on the show who has a different perspective. Kristaps Andrejsons is a Latvian journalist, writer, and the host of The Eastern Border podcast - one of my go-to podcasts for Russian, Soviet, and Eastern European history for many years. He is a fluent Russian speaker, and provides insight that you’re simply not going to get on CNN or Fox News. That said, he and I have very different interpretations of the recent history between the West & Russia, and this discussion was a great start at getting to the bottom of our disagreements. So, those of you who have been pining to see me get my ass handed to me by someone on this issue, maybe now’s your chance! This is a preview of a Substack subscribers-only episode, so if you can spare $5 a month to help me buy kibble, I'm sure my cats, and certainly I, would really appreciate it.
Follow him on Twitter for regular updates on the current Russian-Ukrainian war, and check out his website and podcast for longer form analysis.

Hey everybody, this is Darryl Cooper. You listen to the Martyrmade podcast. So I thought

0:11.1

that after the recent thoughts on Ukraine episode that I put out, a few of you, first

0:17.4

of all, most of you, virtually all of you, heard me out and when you had criticisms,

0:22.8

I, the vast majority of them were solid good faith criticisms. And one of the most common

0:28.9

ones that I got was that the account I was providing was overly focused on the role

0:34.2

that the United States and NATO had played in my interpretation in leading to the current

0:39.3

crisis. Now that was kind of the purpose of the episode. You know, I saw it as kind of

0:43.4

providing information that wasn't necessarily making it into the mainstream discourse when

0:47.8

you turn on CNN or Fox News or listen to some of our politicians. But I heard you guys.

0:53.4

And so I thought it would be a good idea to bring someone on the show who has a very

0:58.1

different perspective from mine and from the one that I put out in that podcast.

1:04.0

Kristaps Anderson is his name. He's a Latvian journalist, a writer and the host of the

1:09.3

Eastern border podcast, which is for a long time been one of my go to podcasts for Russian

1:15.5

and Soviet and Eastern European history. He's also a fluent Russian speaker. He's very

1:21.6

plugged into Russian media and what Russian leaders are saying in their own language to their

1:26.8

own people. So he provides insight that you're you're just not going to get from mainstream

1:31.6

sources in the West for the most part. Now that said, again, he and I have very different

1:37.2

interpretations of the recent history between the West and Russia. And this discussion was

1:42.7

a great start because we will be speaking again soon. A great start at getting to the

1:49.6

bottom of our disagreements. So those of you who heard the thoughts on Ukraine episode

1:54.8

and have been pining to see me get my ass handed to me by someone who's a real expert

2:00.6

on this issue. Maybe I'm not making any promises, but maybe not as your chance. So this is a
