0:40.9	and belonged to the minority indigenous group important in the area called the Kron.
0:46.5	At the age of 16, Samuel finished elementary school and enrolled in a Baptist junior high school
0:52.9	where he stayed for about two years before
0:55.2	enlisting in the armed forces of Liberia in hopes of obtaining a scholarship to a high school
1:00.1	in Kakata. Instead, he was assigned to various military duties over the next 10 years and received
1:08.2	his education at a military school. In 1979, he was promoted to master sergeant
1:14.4	and was named the administrator for the 3rd Battalion in Monrovia, where he served for 11 months.
1:22.2	That all ended, however, in 1980, when he staged a violent coup d'etat, aimed at overthrowing President William Tolbert
1:30.8	and the True Whig Party. On April 12th, Master Sergeant Samuel Doe led a group of Kron soldiers
1:38.5	in attacking the Liberian Executive Mansion and killing President William R. Tolbert Jr.
1:45.2	Taking the lives of 26 of the president's supporters in the process,
1:50.3	13 members of the cabinet were publicly executed just 10 days later.
1:55.8	And shortly after the coup, government ministers were forced to publicly walk around Monrovia in the nude before
