Just across the Potomac River from D.C., 14 miles from the Pentagon and less than 20 miles from the White House, sits Hayfield Secondary School. It's a public school in

Fairfax County, Virginia, one of America's most affluent counties. In early 2023, Hayfield High

was just another average Northern Virginia school, some sports accolades, a few educational awards.

The football team was pretty unremarkable. Greg Keeney's son was a student who had just finished his sophomore year.

It was also his first season a starter on Hayfield's football team.

We're talking February 23.

Our son goes through an elbow surgery, has chips removed from his elbow, and then, you know, wants to continue to play football.

Coming off elbow surgery with a fresh start ahead, Greg's son's junior year would be a turning point.

A chance to move past his injury and get real meaningful playing

time. Greg's son isn't just a football player. He's the quarterback.

We kind of anticipated, hey, he's going to be doing JV and kind of learn the game and grow from

there. Unbeknownst to us, about a few weeks before the start of the season, he was

thrust in to be the starter on the varsity team as the quarterback.

For high school football players, junior year is when it gets real. More playing time,

potential recruiters, bigger games, and bigger moments. As a starter, or QB1, as it's often called, Greg's son was in

charge of the offense. He had the keys. He was the leader, the alpha of the team.

It was pretty fantastic, just a normal high school year. So at the end of the season, as things

kind of progressed and

there became interest from him, he wanted to continue to pursue not only playing in high

school, but what it would look like in college.
