Hello and welcome to Under the Skin from Luminary. This week I spoke with Paul King's

North, a writer who lives in the west of Ireland. He's a former deputy editor of the Ecologist

and Co-Founder of the Dark Mountain Project. We chat about everything from big tech companies

censoring people's views being labelled if you go against the media trend and how movements

and communities thrive. I became familiar with Paul when I read a couple of his essays online

during the pandemic. He's attitudes and opinions on complex subjects. I found pretty exciting

and like edifying I would say. He's certainly an alternative voice and many of his opinions

might be challenging for some of you but I really feel it's increasingly important that we allow

a diverse range of voices into the public conversation if any such thing could ever be identified.

moment I'm listening to Mr. Beast on Joe Rogan and that's what's providing me a kind of blend

of contemplation and also education. That kid I think Mr. Beast, the YouTuber, he's the

equivalent of like some 16-year-old monk that you might meet in an airport flying into Nepal and

you're looking to the eyes of a child and think, oh my god, they know God and that would annoy me

actually because I tell you to tell me about that. It was a guest on the show, you know, the dude who

created headspace and he patted him. He told me that when he was a monk, he met a monk that was

like 15 years old and you could see he was enlightened by looking at him and my reaction was anger.

But I was like, you can't be enlightened at 16. I've said my whole life trying to get enlightened.
