After Labor Day Monday and a scheduled dark day on Tuesday, proceedings this week began

on Wednesday, September 7.

At 8 a.m. court staff informed the media that the day's start time was delayed from 8

a.m. to 1015.

Judge O'Keefe explained to the jury, before we begin today, I did want to address the delay.

One of the scheduled witnesses has fallen ill, so since we didn't just want to cancel,

we made other arrangements.

Deputy DA Christopher Poverl called Shelby LaDelle to the stand at 1025 a.m. LaDelle is a

forensic specialist with the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, and presumably made

the two-hour drive to the Salinas courthouse that morning, with no advance notice to testify

out of order.

LaDelle was previously a property and evidence technician for the San Luis Obispo Police

Department.
