Hey, Desirving listeners, today I want to talk about problematic terms in psychology.

0:05.5

The spark for this episode was that someone emailed in telling us to not use the term Asperger's.

0:16.4

And I think what happened, it was, the email was addressed to Bob and to me.

0:23.0

And I think from my memory, Bob in an episode used the term Asperger's.

0:28.6

It could have been me that used the term, but I'm not sure.

0:31.4

Or we read an email that used the term.

0:34.2

The reason why I don't think it was me is because over 10 years ago, the field of

War II and before World War II. So obviously, referring to these individuals with that name is

1:37.9

problematic, hurtful, offensive, right? So this all started when I was preparing for tomorrow. I'm going to be

1:47.3

recording a podcast with Bob, and I was going over emails to possibly read on the air. And I came

1:55.7

across this email because it was addressed to Bob and me. That's why I think it might have been one of us or Bob, I don't know,

2:03.2

but I was going over this email and thinking about how to respond. But as I went down a mini

2:10.3

rabbit hole, I realized that the topic was bigger than just a short section of an episode with Bob. I started thinking about all the various
