Whether it is rent or the interest rates or the mortgage payment you would be expected to make,

there's no doubt about it. Housing in the United States is very expensive and it's affecting

one segment of our

population more than others. Homeowners, people who've owned their homes for 20 some odd

years like me, well, we're not so much affected by that. It's actually been a little bit of a

benefit to us because our property values have gone up. But young people trying to get a home, start a family in that home, they're more affected.

Joining us to talk about pro-family housing and a pro-family housing agenda,

Lyman Stone, a Ph.D. candidate in population dynamics at McGill University,

Director of Research for Demographic Intelligence, Senior Fellow, and Director

of the Pranatalism Initiative at the Institute for Family Studies, and co-author of a new report

for IFS, titled Homes for Young Families, a Pro Family Housing Agenda.

How would you describe the home affordability

situation in the U.S.? Not great. So when we talk about affordability, what we mean is basically

what are the prices on typical houses compared to typical incomes? And if you do kind of all houses compared to all Americans' incomes,

the situation with housing affordability does not look totally terrible.

But that's largely because what's happened is incomes have risen a lot for older Americans

versus, say, 60 years ago. There's a lot of reasons
