Thank you for joining us for a Thursday edition of the podcast.

Guy, it's a shame nothing's happened since we last got together.

Actually, I'm trying to think a lot's happened.

Hunter Biden decided to plead guilty,

which even if he'd gone to trial quite handedly,

that would have been what we used to call a long guilty plea. That's what I used to

call trials where a defendant had no chance to win. I would call them long guilty pleas.

Guilty pleas in federal court usually take about 45 minutes.

Trials take anywhere from four days to four weeks.

But the outcome is the same. You're going to get convicted.

Just for those of you who are not familiar with the federal system, if you plead guilty,

you get what's called acceptance of responsibility, which is a slight reduction in your

sentence.

It's ultimately up to the judge what he or she wants to sentence a defendant to.

In the old days we had guidelines and you had to sentence within those guidelines,

but we don't anymore, the guidelines for advisory and judges can do pretty much whatever they want to do.

And you know, people say, I hate to say I told you so, they really don't. So whenever somebody begins a sentence by saying I hate to say I told you so they actually don't hate it at all. They love it.

And I'm probably no different. I knew that Juan Rashan was not going to

sentence Donald Trump before the election. I knew he wasn't because he wants to

put him in prison and the difference between prison and jail for those who wonder.

Jail is usually where you go pending trial or if you receive a sentence of less than one year,
