The environment sector is one of the least ethnically diverse sectors. On the 3rd of September, Green Alliance hosted a webinar about how, as a sector, and a wider movement,

we can address racism in our work to tackle the climate and nature crisis.

What does it even mean to be kept accountable when you have all the power?

During the event, we had reflections from people leading the way

in creating a more diverse and inclusive sector,

their challenges, concerns, and a few hard truths,

as well as their advice on the right way forward.

Diversity works if it's a core value of your organisation,

again, it's something you really desire, something you really want.

Please create safe and brave spaces that centre and empower the voices

and experiences of staff and stakeholders you work with

who may have experienced the disadvantage and the marginalisation

that you're trying to now address.

The webinar kicked off with an introduction from Fiona Reynolds,

Master of Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge, and Chair of Green Alliance.

It's my great pleasure to introduce this really important event.

I mean, the first thing to say is just how

overwhelmed we are by the number of people who are joining us. We've had over a thousand

registrations, and I can see by the number of participants that we're clocking up really fast

towards that number. And I think that's really indicative of the enormous interest in the subject that we're going to be discussing today. In fact, it seems to me that this is a moment that is very timely, that is very important, and I think is rapidly becoming mission critical to us all.
