lines tonight's episode letter from Birmingham jail today's date is January 16th

2023 it is designated as the day on which we commemorate Martin Luther King

Jr.'s birthday and the man himself of course it was Martin Luther King Jr. who

wrote letter from Birmingham jail back in April of 1963 in honor of the

occasion I want to tell you about the experience I had the first time I read

this letter from Birmingham jail by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and after I

tell you that experience I want to read that letter for you and for me on this

important day I have read this letter from Birmingham jail once in my life

before today and that was 40 years ago I was just back from my mission I was

studying at the University of Texas at Austin as an undergraduate I was

pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree and as part of that I had to take a number

of English classes now back when I was in high school I was a member of the

first advanced placement English class that was offered during my senior year

at Sumner High School I did okay in the class I took the test with the rest of

the class members at the end of the year and by the test I made the advanced

placement test and I scored a solid five much to my surprise and that of my

classmates the point being that because I got such a good score on my AP English

class I was able to clip out of a number of English classes in college well

there was about a four-year lag between graduating from high school in 78 and

starting college in 1982 largely because I joined the church right after I

graduated from high school then had to wait till I was 19 to serve a two-year
