It's always interesting to go into a new album or listen to a new fresh single from your favorite

artist and pay attention to which songs connect with you off a first listen or maybe even your

second listen and also play that game where you're predicting, well, is this song going to also

hit the masses or is it just from my rotation? Is it a bit too left field for it to become a big global hit?

Or is it something that can really connect with a lot of people?

And that's what we wanted to talk about today was going through different songs and

talking about tracks that we expected to be hits that didn't really pan out that way.

And some recent examples include songs like a

fuck you mean, for example, where that takes the inverse approach where when we first listen to that

track, we didn't see it becoming a hit. We weren't a big fan of it. And it ended up climbing to

almost number one on the charts and became one of the biggest songs of 2023. But then on the flip

side, there's songs

like first person shooter where just based on the recipe alone of having J. Cole and Drake on a track,

you could already tell what that trajectory is going to look like. So we brought in about eight

songs each. And these are songs that are great songs that we expected to become hits. And for myself, I know that I even brought in some songs from older albums that I thought maybe had become sleeper hits over the years.

But then you look at the streams or you look at how many plaques it has, if any, and you're sort of surprised.

Yeah, and I think it's interesting too because in today's episode, guys, we tried to bring in also some stuff that did get a bit of praise but that should have really landed and like when we're talking

about hits we're not talking about a song on a popular album that's just going to rack up streams

because the community likes it or it's a part of a big moment no like this has to be a hit either it

had to chart really high or in the hundreds of millions of streams like something

that we really thought was going to land with the masses so i'll welcome it to another episode guys
