Rebecca is an organizer and she is the Progressive Challenger for Congress in Washington's sixth district.

Rebecca, welcome to Ampt Up.

Hi, Ryan, thanks so much for having me.

I'm excited.

Yeah, since this is your first time on the show,

why don't you give it just a brief introduction and kind of let our listeners know who you are and why you're running for Congress?

Yeah, I'm running in the sixth district in Washington State, which is Tacoma in the northwestern tip of the state because our district has been safely blue for 55 years, yet we have the 11th most conservative Democrat in the House representing us and

Somebody who calls himself a leader in getting money out of politics that he's taking over three million dollars in corporate tax and I really just can't stand hypocrisy in politics. It's just

something I really can't stand and so I decided to run because we need somebody

in office who is following through with what they say and actually doing it and helping our district.

We really need housing jobs, health care, and free education for everybody in this district.

And that's why I'm running because there's no reason for us to have somebody so conservative and then we also just really need policies that will address the opioid epidemic lack of good affordable housing and lack of good jobs.

Yeah, you know, one, a lot of my listeners know, but I only have candidates on the podcast who are who support Medicare for all. That's my first

criteria and then my second criteria is that candidates don't take any

corporate pack money, which you don't. But kind of describe to our

listeners like why that's so important because I think that at the heart of all of

the corruption that we see in our political system, it's money.

And it's big money who has bought off both major political parties.

And so, you know, we have all these systemic problems, like you said, from health care to housing to criminal justice reform.

But nothing gets done because in Washington, when nothing gets done, that means these giant corporations

make more money. They literally make money off of our broken system right?
