Summary

Does your current identity reflect who you truly are? Marc worked in sales and often used alcohol to connect with colleagues and clients. As he got closer to his forties, he noticed that it took him longer to recover from hangovers. At that point, he realized he needed to make healthier choices. Since his last conversation with Annie on the podcast, Marc has left his sales career to focus on building a life outside work. He is now prioritizing his family, giving back to his community, and embracing a healthier lifestyle. In this "Where Are They Now" episode, Marc joins Hayley to share the tools and mindset shifts that helped him rediscover his energy and motivation. In this episode, Hayley and Marc will discuss: - Feeling sick after his first drink but trying alcohol again - How alcohol became part of his work culture - Drinking more to cope with hangovers - Choosing to change his habits without labeling himself - Managing the awkwardness of not drinking at events - How personal choices can inspire change in others - Replacing sugar cravings with healthier snacks - Exploring non-alcoholic options for social moments  - Creating a supportive, nonjudgmental environment for change - Using exercise to boost energy and healthy - The importance of having a strong 'why' - Shifting focus to health, family, and giving back - Building a new identity beyond work and drinking - Rediscovering energy in everyday life - And other topics… Related Episodes: EP 154: Reader Question – Why Am I Having Sugar Cravings During a Break from Alcohol?https://thisnakedmind.com/ep-154-why-am-i-having-sugar-cravings-during-a-break-from-alcohol/  EP 352: Reader Question – Am I Going to Be the Butt of Jokes? https://thisnakedmind.com/ep-352-reader-question-am-i-going-to-be-the-butt-of-jokes/  EP 574: Reader’s Questions – Is It Better to Drink in Moderation or Not at All?https://thisnakedmind.com/ep-574-readers-questions-is-it-better-to-drink-in-moderation-or-not-at-all/ Ready to take the next step on your journey?  Visit https://learn.thisnakedmind.com/podcast-resources for free resources, programs, and more. I am really excited to hear more about your story and then where you they now? Thank you so much for joining me. I am really excited to hear more about your

0:23.1

story and then where you are now. I know that your story has inspired so many of our viewers and

0:28.4

listeners. And we just talked about when you actually first recorded the podcast with Annie,

0:33.6

which was right around COVID. So I think we're going to touch on that.

0:41.2

And obviously, of course, where you are now, there's so many different parts of your story that I can relate to.

0:42.4

And then there's just so many other elements that I absolutely love.

0:46.6

And you had mentioned, which is so interesting, right, when you first drank, it was not

0:51.6

a pleasant first experience.

0:53.8

And I would love for you to just

0:55.4

touch and expand on that a little bit. Yeah, I don't think for many people that it was actually

1:00.4

a pleasant experience because you're putting poison in your body that you've never had before.

1:05.5

So I think it was Zima. I don't even think it's made anymore. Really terrible liquor, blue bottle, I think is

1:13.6

what it came in. And somebody had gotten a hold of it or whatever. And so I just remember

1:18.6

drinking that. And they always made it taste decent, right? Put some flavoring in it and so forth.

1:24.0

You're like, oh, this stuff is really good. And then, of course, just being sick

1:27.9

and throwing up and everything afterwards from drinking it, and you would think that would be

1:31.5

enough to get you to never come back to it. But of course, that's not the case.

1:35.2

No. And that's so interesting. You mentioned that. I actually wrote that down yesterday

1:38.8

separately, that it's so fascinating that that whole hair of the dog, right, you end up drinking the thing that made you feel horrible in the first place and just how backwards that all is.

1:52.0

And I had the exact same experience. My first experience was awful. I was so sick the next day. And exactly like you said, you think, well, that's enough to know that, you know, this isn't that great, but because it's so normalized and encouraged, right, you don't really understand
