I was finally having my second son after years of fertility challenges.

Sai was born January 25th, 2020, and the world shut down that first week of March.

Like so many, when the pandemic hit her perspective changed.

During that time you saw millions of women get pushed out of the workforce because daycare centers were shut down and schools were shut down.

And I saw that like so many of my students that were off daycare centers were shut down and schools were shut down.

And I saw that like so many of my students that were on their way to major in computer

science instead of going to college, they had to stay home and take care of their siblings

because their mothers were essential workers, nurses or teachers the people who kept our city alive quite frankly and

because we didn't have a structure of care they had to step down from their future.

So Rushma wrote a call to action specifically for what she called a

a Marshall Plan for Moms, a monthly payment of $2,400 to make up for the

lack of policies addressing parental leave, affordable child care, and pay equity.

Of course, American moms are not getting a monthly payment,

but the idea lived on in the form of Reshma's campaign now called
